2. Was Michelangelo’s decision to sculpt on the cracked block of marble a wrong one? Give reason for your answer.

Answer: No, Michelangelo’s decision to sculpt on the cracked block of marble was not a wrong one. Michelangelo worked hard to sculpt the perfect human figure of David battling Goliath. He even studied the human body closely so that he could draw the muscles and nerves accurately. He created it with such care and feeling that the statue of David left the people of Florence speechless.

 

3. What were the obstacles faced by Michelangelo while painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel?

Answer: There were many obstacles faced by Michelangelo while painting the ceiling of the Sistine Chapel. The first day, he mixed the colours and carefully applied them, but to his horror the colours had not set. Then he knew that to paint the whole ceiling, a great deal of strength and patience is required. So he chose five assistants to help him. But none of them could match his skill and he sent them away. It took him three years to paint half the ceiling and the other half fourteen months. At the end, Michelangelo revealed himself to be a painter of genius.
